HAPPY 2021!
we love a hearty vegan recipe and one that has truly captured our attention this winter is the vegan wellington recipe by karissa's vegan kitchen which we found through our friends at livekindly.
we love the rich warmth of this recipe and when making it at home we added some of our dark cocoa cherry bowl to the mix and the result was an increased depth of flavor and a mouthwatering "i want more right now" result with our families.
we hope you give our first recipe of the new year a try and join us as we kick off supporting the 31 day #veganuary challenge. have a happy and healthy 2021 and enjoy!

hello worthy family,
we are so happy to be writing on this Giving Tuesday to tell you a bit more about our charitable partner, Graham Windham, and their commitment to helping children, youth, and families build a strong foundation for life by ensuring a safe, loving, permanent family and the opportunity and preparation to thrive in school and in the world.
how many of you have seen the show or read the book Hamilton? well if you have then you actually have a little bit of the backstory on Graham Windham. after Alexander Hamilton's death, his wife Eliza Hamilton (nee Schuyler) was left impoverished and fighting to keep her family home for herself and her children, the youngest of whom was only two years old and one of whom was a foster child.
as a single mother to her family and widow of a man who had been orphaned himself in childhood, Eliza was passionate about the lives of children. in 1806, along with several other social activists in New York City, Eliza was one of the founders of the first private orphanage in the city, the New York Orphan Asylum Society. she was there in 1807 when the orphanage laid its first cornerstone, and she was indefatigable in her efforts to raise money and support the society, becoming its director in 1821. she remained involved until her 90s. that organization she helped to found—Eliza’s “living legacy”—exists today as Graham Windham.
the story that prompted Eliza to start what is now Graham Windham continues this year as we visit with Mayra.
Mayra has made up her mind that even though the world may feel like it is going crazy around her, she can make the choice to remain positive and that’s what she models for her two children.
as a child in foster care who aged out of care without the necessary supports in place, Mayra has experienced times of sadness and struggle, but she has chosen hope. not just for herself, but for her own children and for the thousands of children that Graham serves.
receiving a gift during the holiday season brings joy to Graham’s children and youth and makes them feel special. today, Mayra goes above and beyond to make sure no Graham child feels forgotten like she did back then. as the Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator at Graham Windham, Mayra said, “it’s beautiful to see that there are people who care” – people willing to give their time and money for Graham’s children and families.
join us and Mayra and make sure that Graham’s kids and families have a special gift this holiday season.
we are so honored to be a long-term corporate partner with Graham Windham and hope that you will join us and Mayra this Giving Tuesday in supporting their efforts by using this link to donate to their #JoyDrive and help us provide 1,000 gift cards for presents, groceries, or warm winter clothes.
worthy will match all gifts generated today up to $1,000 so every gift you make today will be doubled!
as always, we are all worthy,
thanksgiving and the holiday season looks and feels a bit different this year. maybe you are gathering with a smaller group, or uniting virtually with family. perhaps you are home instead of traveling. whatever the case may be, it's possible the typical items you list you are thankful for are on hold this year.
when thinking about gratitude in 2020, we are reminded of the words of Maya Angelou, "be present in all things and thankful in all things." instead of focusing on what's missing this season, we at worthy challenged ourselves to expand our list, incorporating more of the little things, all things.
perhaps it's giving thanks for the crisp air on our cheeks on a morning walk, or the access to food that allows us to cook a meal for ourselves and our households, or a movie that made us laugh recently. we are also challenging ourselves to think of who brightened our year in our 20 for 2020 campaign, which you can read more about here.
reframing what the holiday celebration looks like can be a challenge, but reframing your perspective can make the spirit of the holiday even brighter.
what is something new that you can add to your gratitude list this year?
with gratitude,
team worthy
“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” - Amelia Earhart
looking back on the last year, it's easy to immediately think of what didn't happen; the weddings, the graduations, the holiday gatherings...
but lately, we at worthy have been pausing and thinking, what did happen?
who were the ones that Earhart would have praised for making that leap, for taking positive action amidst a season of shutdowns? that's why, to cap off this memorable year, we decided to launch a series called 20 for 2020, highlighting 20 of the organizations, activists, and changemakers that inspired us this year to continue to push ourselves and our brand to grow and thrive.
from Kamala Harris, the first woman and BIPOC individual to be elected to serve as United Stated Vice President, to Anika Trebrolu, the fourteen-year-old girl who recently discovered a molecule that many hope will lead to a potential cure of COVID-19, we've found that this year brought more wins than the often-dispiriting mainstream daily news affords us.
who or what was your 2020 hero? leave us a comment and let us know!

Using a paddle attachment or handheld mixer, blend together until smooth - approximately 2-3 minutes, then pour into prepared pans and spread evenly.
Bake 30-33 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. As our friend Kathleen King said on our 6/26/2020 IGTV live (see it here!) invest in an oven thermometer if you can so you know you are baking at the right temp!
Cool cake 20 minutes in pan, then remove cake from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
To make the frosting, combine butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa powder and 2 TBSP of non-dairy milk into a large mixing bowl. Using a whisking attachment or a handheld mixer beat on high speed until combined and smooth, about 4 minutes.
Place one of the rounds on your cake plate and evenly spread 1/2 cup of frosting over surface of the cake. Top with remaining cake layer, then spread remaining frosting over surface of the top of the cake. Garnish as you want but we loved using natural sprinkles!
we are all worthy,
Nydia & Sarah
